Backstage with Jason Shafer (clarinet), Josh Sawicki (piano), and Ian Wisekal (oboe) who premiered my new trio, DIVINE CLOUD THAT WE SHARE, last Thursday, July 28th at the 2022 International Double Reed Society conference held at the University of Colorado – Boulder. The piece was commissioned by the group and inspired by this poem by French philosopher, Luce Irigaray:
An interweaving of souls,
Arms at the service of breath,
A sort of wings
Present in our embraces,
Holding the flesh of the air
In us,
Between us.
Life in suspense,
Divine cloud
That we share
In a quiet bliss.
