PROGRAM NOTES:

My middle-school age daughter still claims that her favorite “subject” in school is recess!  Assuming this may be true for most kids, I took RECESS! as a point of departure for the piece for the Boulder Philharmonic’s annual Discovery Concerts for young audiences.  The orchestra evokes a sense of the wildly free spirit of recess through musical textures that chatter, whirr, spin, and collide.  I hope this sonic playground will give us the feeling that there is nothing more important to be doing than running, jumping, and climbing!
